As not only an abstract expressionist artist, but also as a professional interior designer, Los Angeles born Anita Lewis is very much in tune with interior and architectural surroundings. Her philosophy that spaces should demonstrate orchestration of shapes, forms, texture and color, should be in harmony and balance with the environment and each other.
“In my works of art, I have a related Zen-Earthiness inspired approach, fusing texture and color to orchestrate the compostion, complimenting architectural styles with linear clarity and understated elegance.”
Concepts of nature and visual impressions taken in points and travels of her life get transferred to the canvas. The end result will be a balanced “conceptual impression”. Her work is definitely non-representational and of the moment, yet many viewers emulate their vision into the painting, creating their own story. Anita Lewis’ work is collected and represented both nationally and internationally in fine architectural homes, corporations, health centers and fine art galleries.
“Move over Lee Krasner and Joan Mitchell, there is a new artist in town. There is a freedom to her work, but an underlying structure prevents chaos and, pulling the pieces together, has something to say. The work says much more about how the artist feels about what she saw on that day. The bravura of her strokes are so powerful that one need not book a flight to Siberia to know a great deal about how the forest impresses; so powerful and evocative that the viewer is not embarrassed to linger on and stare. Like Joan Mitchell, Anita Lewis lived in Europe for twenty years and the classic art history of that world is evident in her body of work presented.”
