biography
Anita Lewis is a San Diego County based artist whose work emulates her international heritage and love of nature. Born in 1957 in Santa Monica, near Los Angeles, she enjoyed two main cultural influences while growing up; her mother from Germany, and her father American with Welsh heritage. After completing High School graduating amongst the top of her class, she went on to satisfy her aerospace engineer father’s wish of studying something practical, such as Design or Architecture. Yet also following her own dream, she graduated with a Bachelors of Art in Art from California State University Northridge, the coverall title for Art and Design studies.
Anita Lewis was no stranger to the fine arts. Her ancestors were artists, designers and engineers. She began oil painting at the tender age of eleven and sold her first commissioned work at age 14. After finishing University she left for Europe intending to stay only a year. She returned to the United States almost 20 years later having raised a daughter. Anita Lewis started a high-end interior design business and pioneered many prominent European brand name furnishings into the San Diego/La Jolla area winning numerous awards and mentions in publications.
In 2005 Anita Lewis put her high-profile interior design career to rest, to concentrate on her art. Since then she has rocketed to international recognition in the art world. She has participated in internationally renowned art shows such as Art Expo New York, Art Expo Las Vegas and Arte Classica Buenos Aires. Her work is collected in many countries and exhibited in fine art galleries, corporations and health centers, high-end architectural homes, both nationally and internationally. Her work has also been commissioned for many residential projects in New York, Italy, Germany, Colorado and Los Angeles. She has been interviewed in San Diego on radio and television and spoken at events.
